Canoo marks the third major deal signed by Walmart for electric vans. Early this year, Walmart reserved 5,000 electric vans from General Motors subsidiary BrightDrop. It also bought 1,100 electric vans from Ford E-Transit, some of which it is already operating.
The big-box retailer plans to use electric vans from all three companies for InHome and other local deliveries. It intends to increase the availability of InHome from 6 million to 30 million households by the end of this year, as it adds major metros like Los Angeles and Chicago.

By 1991, the company's shoes were highly desired due to high demand and low supply. The company expanded internationally; released new models, including snowboard shoes; and was renamed Vans, Inc. to reflect its customers calling the shoes "Vans" for short. The same year, Vans went public at US$14 per share on NASDAQ.[6] In 2004, Vans merged with North Carolina-based VF Corporation.[8] In 2016, in celebration of its 50th anniversary, Vans released a new logo and launched a campaign to target a wider audience.[7] In 2022, Vans launched the new VR3 product line where 30% of the product is renewable, recycled or regenerative. VF Corporation will expand the VR3 product collection to more footwear and apparel categories.[9]

A few years back, Volkswagen paraded its new California camper van in front of us, seemingly rolling out the carpet for its campers' return to the United States market. But the California never came, which first disappointed diehard Veedubbers, and then a far wider audience as Americans turned to campers and RVs as a pandemic-proof way to travel. It felt like VW sensed America was ready to embrace its vans again, only to once again snub us.
While the California 6.1 is incontrovertibly not coming to America, the outlook needn't be as gray as a winter's day. VW has confirmed its electric van, the ID Buzz, will make it Stateside, so with the biggest hurdle cleared, perhaps there's hope for pop-top electric vans yet.
